      The Registered Nurse - Forensic Nurse Examiner (RN-FNE) participates as a member of the Sexual Assault Forensic Nurse Examiner (SAFE) program, providing victims of sexual assault and intimate partner violence with sensitive, coordinated, and patient-centered care. The RN-FNE provides the forensic medical exam in all cases of sexual assault and intimate partner violence as requested by victim or law enforcement, and provides emergency and prophylactic care and information regarding proper medical follow-up for reported and non-reported cases of sexual assault and intimate partner violence that present Howard County General Hospital. The RN-FNE’s experience, forensic education, knowledge and skill establish an increased level of competence. The RN-FNE uses specialized knowledge, judgment and skills as the basis for assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of the practice of forensic nursing. Communications are required inside and outside the work group to resolve mutual problems and to collaborate on work procedures. Communication with external contacts is for the provision of on-going service and handling of routine transactions, frequently detailed information. Is responsible for ensuring that satisfaction and service to internal and external contacts is maintained.
